Rack drive basics: module, pressure angle and pitch line
A rack can be understood as part of a gear with infinitely many teeth, turning the involute profile into a straight line.

Technical explanation
The rack profile is straight; during translation its points share the same velocity magnitude and direction.
Pressure angle is equal along the profile and equals the profile inclination; the standard value is 20°.
Pitch and module remain equal on lines parallel to the addendum line; the pitch line is the dimensional reference.
